Frequently asked questions
HOW DO I GET THE BEST FROM MY MANICURE?
While you are wearing Shellac you will love your nails. With the correct care and attention I would expect them to last 14 days; remember they are ‘jewels not tools’.
DO
Protect your nails
Your fabulous polish will last longer if you wear gloves when doing:
• household cleaning and gardening,
• hobbies that are rough on your hands
• using harsh chemical products.
File the free edge
During the application process you may notice I paint the free edge of the nail with each layer of Shellac. This not only gives the manicure a professional finish it helps to avoid the colour shrinking from the nail tip during the curing process. This seal will wear off with normal wear and tear, it is not detrimental to the polish and doesn’t mean the polish will chip. This edge can be filed to keep the free edge looking good, always file at a 45-degree angle and with a 240 grit file (this is complimentary with service from Tips On Nails)
Wash and dry your hands after swimming in a pool or applying some creams/lotions
Swimming in chlorinated water mixed with sunshine can fade some of the lighter colours. To minimize the effect always make sure hands and nails are dried before sunbathing
Be aware that using sun tan oils or insect repellent solutions can cause damage to Shellac as they may contain solvents; take care when applying and always wash hands straight away after application.
Apply Solar Oil
I recommend the use of CND Solar Oil on and around the nail at night before going to bed. This award winning and naturally light oil contains jojoba, which helps to carry vitamin E into the nails and skin around them. Repeated use drives nutrients into the nail and cuticle area making the nails stronger and healthier.
DON'T
Pick or Pull
If you do chip your Shellac manicure please do not pick or pull the polish, as it will cause damage to your nail. Contact me and I will assess the nail and repair if needed (please note repairs may be chargeable)
Incorrect removal at home may damage the surface of your nails; I can remove Shellac using a professional remover, the price of which is already included if you are having a shellac treatment.
